I used Tasker on my SG 3 to interface with Google Now and to send http commands to a tiny, always on, web server at the house. I used DynDNS on my router to maintain a domain name tied to my WAN IP address. I used Quick Macros scripting language on the PC to create the web server and most of the logic for the system. QM talks to an Arduino via USB. The Arduino sends IR commands to the TV, stereo and Roku and sends RF commands to the door lock. The door lock unit uses a PIC microcontroller (C code), a $5 433 MHz ASK receiver and a continuous rotation servo for the mechanism. It was a little over 1000 lines of code total and $60. I could have saved $20 by going PIC all the way. Oh well.
