Google kauft Motorola für 12,5 Milliarden Dollar, gemeinsame Plattform für kommende Nexus-Geräte?

Und es ist wiedermal etwas passiert, was bei mir nur ein „What the fuck?“ durch den Kopf jagen lässt. Google hat mal soeben 12,5 Milliarden Dollar auf den Tisch gelegt und kauft sich seinen eigenen Hersteller, Ziel dieses Kaufes ist kein geringerer Dinosaurier als Motorola Mobility. Aus dieser Allianz könnte und wird sich wohl eine neue Plattform für kommende Android-Geräte von Google entwickeln, ich persönlich tippe daher auf kommende Nexus-Tablets und -Smartphones, vielleicht auch schon das Nexus 3 und kommende erste Tablet mit Ice Cream Sandwich?

Nicht nur ich bin nun sehr gespannt was da auf uns zukommt, damit könnte Google unabhängig von anderen Herstellern nun in direkter Konkurrenz gegenüber Apple auftreten, denn ab sofort besitzt man nun nicht mehr nur die eigene Software, sondern auch die eigene Hardware. Für Motorola selbst und die Kunden hat dies auch nur Vorteile, Motorola kann nicht mehr so einen Mist verzapfen wie es sie es beispielsweise in der Update-Politik einiger Geräte getan haben und deren Geräte kommen dann wohl als pure Google-Geräte auf den Markt, ohne Motoblur und andere überflüssige Spielereien. [aartikel]B00429ZAUK:right[/aartikel]UPDATE: Seit nun einigen Minuten ist eine extra für den Kauf angesetzte Telefonkonferenz vorbei, unter den Teilnehmern waren auch von Google Larry Page und Andy Rubin.

Beide bestätigten, dass Motorola auch in Zukunft ein eigenständiges Unternehmen bliebe und auch kommende Nexus-Geräte weiterhin als Wettbewerb verschiedener Hersteller bestehen bleibt, in welchem bis dato immer das beste Konzept dann den Zuschlag erhielt.

Der Kauf ist sicherlich auch taktisches Mittel von Google, immerhin ist Motorola im Besitz von mehr als 17.000 Patenten. (via)

The acquisition of Motorola Mobility, a dedicated Android partner, will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem and will enhance competition in mobile computing. Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. Google will run Motorola Mobility as a separate business.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals in the US, the European Union and other jurisdictions, and the approval of Motorola Mobility’s stockholders. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2011 or early 2012.
